Announcement about Get Schooled

As we navigate an exciting transition to welcome a new Executive Director, we've made the decision to pause plans for our annual fundraiser Get Schooled.

This wasn’t an easy choice, but focusing on finding the perfect leader is the best way to ensure the long-term success of Lead to Read KC. This means giving our full attention to the search process while also focusing energy on delivering essential programs, building community relationships, and expanding our mission.

Your support is more valuable than ever. Consider joining our Honor Roll monthly giving program, or apply to be a Reading Mentor. We will continue to keep you updated on our progress and news about plans for a future Get Schooled. If you have any questions, please contact Chelan David, Development Director or Terri Barnes, Interim Executive Director.

The Need Is Real!

In Kansas City public and charter schools, just 20% of third graders are reading on grade level, setting them up to become our nation's lowest income, least skilled citizens. The ability to read well by third grade is the foundation for success all children deserve. And it is a community issue. Struggling readers are four times more likely to drop out of high school, and 85 percent of teens in the juvenile justice system are functionally illiterate. Now more than ever, students need reading and mentoring support.
